James is a corporate lawyer. His practice covers all areas of corporate law such as advising on business acquisitions and disposals, structuring equity investments, putting in place shareholder agreements and helping businesses raise investor funding. During his career James has acted for a wide range of clients – from major players in the sports world, to US multinationals, to UK public and private companies, to high-growth start-ups. While his experience is working in high calibre, high demanding corporate teams, James is down to earth and very commercial. He understands exactly where our clients are coming from and what it takes to get them to the next level.

James gained a first-class honours degree from the University of Durham before joining Magic Circle law firm Slaughter and May in 2008 as a trainee and then as an associate in their corporate department. At Slaughter and May, James was involved in corporate transactional and advisory work for major public and private companies.

In 2012 James joined boutique sports law firm Couchmans LLP (now part of Charles Russell Speechlys). At Couchman’s James advised a wide range of clients, including household names in the sports world, on corporate and commercial matters such as buying and selling businesses, equity investments, governance issues and commercial contracts.

In 2016 James joined the London office of US global law firm Squire Patton Bloggs (UK) LLP as a senior associate in their corporate practice group. He advised on all aspects of corporate law work including M&A, private equity, capital markets, joint ventures, group re-organisations and high growth start-ups, with a particular focus on mid-market M&A and private equity.
